Greg Duncan er professor ved Department of Education på University of California, Irvine. Duncan, der har en ph.d. i økonomi fra 1974, tilbragte de første to årtier af sin karriere ved University of Michigan med at arbejde på og til sidst lede dataindsamlingsprojektet Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID), som i 2001 blev udnævnt af National Science Foundation til at være et af de 50 mest betydningsfulde NSF-finansierede projekter i organisationens historie. Fra slutningen af 1980’erne deltog Duncan i en række tværfaglige forskningsnetværk og begyndte at fokusere på virkningerne af familiens og kvarterets forhold på børns kognitive og adfærdsmæssige udvikling. I sin tid på Northwestern University fra 1995-2008 var han Edwina S. Tarry-professor på School of Education and Social Policy. Han var medredaktør af Neighborhood Poverty (1997), Consequences of Growing Up Poor (1997) og For Better and for Worse: Welfare Reform and the Well-Being of Children and Families (2001) og var medforfatter til Higher Ground: New Hope for the Working Poor and Their Children (2007). Duncan blev valgt ind i American Academy of Arts and Sciences i 2001 og i National Academy of Sciences i 2010. Han var formand for Midwest Economics Association i 2004, for Population Association of America i 2008 og for Society for Research in Child Development (2009-11).
